Papa Shango's Greatest and Spookiest Hits
Even though Papa Shango was only around for about a year and a half in the early 90s, he left a lasting impression. Based in appearance on Baron Samedi, Papa Shango was a voodoo practitioner who would curse his opponents, sometimes making them vomit, sometimes making them ooze black liquid, and sometimes setting them on fire. He debuted in January of 1992 and made a run-in in the main event at Wrestlemania 8. The plan was for Sid and Warrrior to have a feud coming out of WM, but Sid got fired. Papa Shango replaced him in the angle and began casting spells in Warrior for months...and then Warrior challenged Randy Savage to a title match at Summerslam while Shango was in the dark match. Towards the end of 1992, the Warrior/Shango angle was picked up again, only for Warrior to leave the company. He did receive a title match against Bret Hart on an episode of SNME, but after that, the character faded away, being used almost exclusively as a jobber to the stars.
Of course, don't feel bad for the guy. He somehow transformed himself (with voodoo) into a supreme (but not ultimate) fighting machine, a black militant, and then a happy go lucky pimp. He did pretty well for himself in the end. I have compiled some of his spookiest moments below. Enjoy...if you dare.
