WCW Monday Nitro 9/25/95

"Gooood lentils, happy Rosh Hashanah!"  Interesting way to start the show.

Alex Wright vs Disco Inferno

Disco's Nitro debut.  He was much...puffier.  And he attacks before the bell.  Alex hits a pretty painful looking missile dropkick to the back.  Bischoff can't even call a dropkick a dropkick.  It's a double front blah blah blah.  Spinning back front reverse double swizzle kick.  Pescado from Alex.  Disco comes back with a hot shot.  Brain is a Disco mark.  Me too.  One of my favorite mid card guys.  Lariat.  Disco is dropkicked off the top rope.  I can't believe it took so long for WCW to pair these guys up as a team.  It's the most natural team they could have had.  Alex wins with a backslide out of a spinning neck breaker.

TO THE BACK.  Jimmy Hart has Hulk doing neck lifts with the title belt while wearing a neck brace.  He talks about pretty much dying and resurrecting himself after Giant tried to kill him.  And then he challenges Giant to a monster truck battle, and a title match after that.  He pretty much said he was going to kill Giant just like he did his dad.  The fuck, Hulk?

Transient

TO THE MEAN GENE.  He shows us clips of the Macho/Lex segment from last week before bringing Macho Man out.  Lex also comes out.  Macho ain't got no RESPECK.  Lex challenges Macho to a match next week.  And Lex will put hit title shot on the line.  AND if Lex doesn't win, he'll leave WCW.  No hand shake from Lex.

Bischoff gives the hard sell on Halloween Havoc, which only has Hulk/Giant scheduled so far.

Sgt. Craig Pittman vs Kurasawa

Mongo has such terrible grammar.  Guy don't even know how to talk proper.  Kurasawa hits a lot of front leg back round side kicks.  Then he hits a falling back body drop on the exposed floor.  SPLAT.  "That splatted like grandma outta the wheel chair."  Arm work.  Kurasawa has a reputation of breaking arms, including Hawk's some months back.  Back drop to the floor gets Pittman back on offense.  Clearly should have been a DQ.  Headbutts.  Belly to belly.  LOTS of headbutts to the arm and gut in this.  Fujiwara arm bar is blocked with a reverse gut wrench suplex.  Kurasawa gets the win with a German suplex.  Pretty sure Pittman kicked out AND got to the ropes, but whatever.

TO THE MEAN GENE.  That Mother Fricker Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman are in the ring.  Maybe we'll get some light shed on this relationship.  Pillman rocking that denim on denim.  Pillman says a lot of scandalous shit towards Flair and seems to be implying that he and Arn are reforming the Horsemen.  Arn more or less says it is no surprise that Flair can't get a partner, because for 10 years, he ran through everyone but always had Arn behind him.  Now he's on his own and that spells bad luck for Flair.

Saturday Night has another interview with Dusty, Sting vs Johnny B. Badd for the US Championship (even though Wonderful should be the contender), the American Males, and The Giant in action.

TO THE BEACH.  A replay of Sullivan attacking Savage on the beach.

Randy Savage vs The Taskmaster

Macho now appears to have control over fire.  Is he a Damon Kane?  Beefcake gets involved right away, throwing Randy into the post.  A whole lot of shit references in this, from Mongo and his dog and from Bischoff.  Sullivan controls the match with stomps and punches until he gets back dropped on the floor.  Beefcake is pulled into the ring and thrown around.  Randy throws the ref and gets disqualified.  He tries to hit the elbow on both men.  Sullivan moved last second.  Giant comes out with a huge chokeslam.  Some jobber comes out and is also crushed.  Then another.  Alex Wright is next and squashed with a bear hug slam.  Lex Luger saunters out.  Another chokeslam to Giant.  Lex stands over Macho and was about to pick him up.  Giant attacks Lex.  Chokeslam.  Sullivan was not happy about this.

Meng vs Lex Luger

Lex is still down when Meng hits the ring.  We are getting word that HULK HOGAN was watching and will be at Nitro next week.  Wait, I thought he was in the back?  Piledriver from Meng.  I like that the promo pic they used for Lex was clearly from 1991.  Lex fights out of the dreaded nerve hold.  He doesn't fight out of a nasty gut wrench back breaker.  He's being dominated.  The chokeslam wrecked him.  This is really not good at all, which should be expected.  Meng gets his Golden Spike and hits Lex in the throat with the Samoan (Tongan) Spike for the win.

Mongo makes a Shakespeare reference.  Next week has Hogan responding to this week's show, Savage vs Lex with Lex putting his title shot and WCW career on the line, the American Males, the Nasty Boys, and THAT MOTHER FUCKER DEAN MALENKO.  This tweener era for Lex is the best character work of his career.  Really looking forward to when it gets much more complicated when he's a heel and Sting is a face, but they're still bros.  Giant finally makes a big mark, laying out two jobbers, a popular mid carder, and two top guys with ease.  For months he hasn't really done anything but choke Hogan, so it was good to finally show that he's no joke.  The Flair/Arn angle takes an interesting twist with Arn and Pillman seemingly reforming the Horsemen without Flair.  Pretty stoked for That Mother Fucker Dean Malenko's Nitro debut next week.
